a grain of rice embedded in my chest (iteration iii)
A curator expressed interest in including this installation in a group show. In this iteration, I reconfigured the installation as an altar the viewer could step into and be surrounded by on three sides. Some moments are replicated, some are new iterations of old moments, and some are specific to this configuration. Viewers stand on an ornamental rug; this softens their steps and psychologically signals that they have been transported to a space beyond the gallery. With this structure shape, viewers were immersed stepping into the installation as if they were being held in a space simultaneously spiritual and domestic.
Wood, ceramics, glaze, plants, rugs, rice, incense, candles, photographs, found objects. Approx. 10x8x8 ft., 2023.
